Message from Mona

I received this e-mail from Ramona Czykyski today and wanted to pass it along to all those connected with the Fixin' Up The Thumb Servant Event.

***********************************************************
I just wanted to thank EVERYONE involved with the FIXING up the Thumb project...

what a nice group of kids...& the adults too
how HARD they have worked at my home..

they honestly made me tired watching them..

the weather was HOT HOT HOT & humid
can not even begin to imagine what it was like up there on my roof!!!

EVERY SINGLE Person was a JOY to meet and what an HONOR to be chosen...

I am truely Blessed,,

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH...

GOD'S BLESSINGS on all of you.... Mona( Ramona Czykyski)

She mentions the heat: it was hot, but like I said in the closing program, I don't believe in a God of chance. Look at this, we had four days where it rained and about 2" of rain the week before the Servant Event. Not a drop during the Servant Event, and since we finished the roofs it has rained every day! We had to deal with heat, but we were able to get the roofs done...rain would have made that very tough.

Tomorrow I should be able to post a bunch of pictures!

Makin' the News

It's late (12:09 a.m.) but it has been a wonderful day and I thought I would share a quick update.

The sites are all done or within easy finishing distance. Because we were in good shape on the sites, we spent extra time at the Caro Prayer Room singing and praising God!

Fixin' Up The Thumb made the front page of the Saginaw News this morning! We were even happy that our picture was larger than the one for Michael Jackson. You can read the story here: http://www.mlive.com/living/saginaw/index.ssf/2009/06/fixin_up_the_thumb_improves_ho.html and even watch a short video here: http://videos.mlive.com/saginawnews/2009/06/fixin_up_the_thumb_improves_ho.html

I've also talked with the Tuscola County Advertiser and will be talking further with a reporter tomorrow morning. Keep your eye out for an article there!

Hola!

I finally have time to breath, so I'm doing a much needed blog update! Please understand that there just has been no time up till now...

The heat has just been merciless on us. Four of the sites are roofing sites so we were literally being baked in the afternoons. We'd have great mornings and then in the afternoon we'd be sending people down because they weren't feeling well. Even Dennis, and if you know Dennis that just doesn't happen. We've been drinking water like it's going out of style. It seems like you would drink a bottle of water and then it would pour right out of your pores.

So today we did a first at Fixin' Up The Thumb. We drastically rethought the schedule and made it a Mexico schedule. We got up an hour earlier (we've done that before) and worked till noon. At noon we came back to church, had a massive water gun/balloon/kiddie pool/slip n' slide blowout which served as a great impromptu shower from the mornings work. After having cooled off we all headed to our bunks for an hour ciesta. Some read, but most zonked right out and are still sleeping (hence why I have time to write this blog). We're about to do Bible study, then we'll have dinner and head back to the work sites for three hours.

The work has progressed well, but it has been hard physical work this year. The handicapped ramp is almost done (we actually pulled that crew today to help out on a roof, otherwise it would be done). One roof will finish tonight, and the other three roofs will take the full week.

Tomorrow's weather doesn't look good so we're talking about modifying that day as well. It looks like Splash Village in Frankenmuth in the morning and then Bible study in the afternoon, and another evening workday.

WNEM news did a fantastic report on the Servant Event on Monday night. It was fantastic!

All in all we've had an excellent week so far. Continue to pray for us. I'll do my best to get some of our fantastic pictures up here, if I can find the time!!!

The countdown clock shows that we are officially 10 days out from the Fixin' Up The Thumb Servant Event. 10, 9, 8...

I'll tell you what. My stuff is pretty much all done, so I am just about going crazy here. I just need everyone to show up and let's get this thing started!
