Weekend at Loon Lake Lutheran Retreat Center

I just wanted to share what a wonderful time the youth just had up at Loon Lake Lutheran Retreat Center this last weekend.

We arrived after dark on Friday night and immediately proceeded to play capture the flag-St. Paul style. We retrieved our hidden flag staffs (it's amazing to me how long we've been using these and year after year they are still in our hiding spot), divided up teams, divided the camp in half, and played in the woods until about 11 p.m. Everyone enjoyed it and couldn't stop talking about it the next day, when we could play again.

Saturday morning we did several work projects to help the camp out. Half of our group cleaned up around our cabin by raking leaves and picking up sticks. The other half helped remodel a cabin that they are getting ready for families to rent. We were able to install some knotty pine, bust up an old concrete porch that will be replaced by a deck, and build a treated wood dock. I was very pleased with how well the youth worked and what they got accomplished!

In the afternoon we had a Bible study on the 23rd Psalm, then had free time. Youth were able to play frisbee golf, play tetherball, cards, take walks, listen to music, or just hang out.

After dinner we had a Bible study on priorities, and then it was time for the capture the flag rematch!

The weather turned sour on us Sunday so we were pretty much confined to indoors. We held our worship (and let me just comment on how well the youth sang this whole weekend!), played mafia and cards. On the way home we stopped at A&W for root beer!

What a wonderful weekend of fellowship, laughing, singing, good food, and just a wonderful time up at LLLRC!

Lenten Services & Meals

We've already had a few Lenten mid-week services, but I thought I would take this opportunity to share what a wonderful attendance we've had and invite you to those that are remaining.

The theme for our worship services is "Sacred Head, Now Wounded." The services are offered at 4:30 & 7:00 p.m. with a meal offered between the services. The meal tonight is goulash and being here in the office I can tell you that it smells wonderful!

Hope to see you tonight!

Mimi's New Computer

I am the computer go-to guy around here at church and as such I have a funny story to share with you (although it may get me in trouble with Mimi).

I had been struggling to keep Mimi's old computer connected to the rest of ours here in the office because it was soooooo old. If you're a Mac person you'll understand when I say that it was still running Mac OS 9. Anyway, I kept talking to Mimi about it being time to get a new computer but she would never go for it. #1 because the church didn't have the money, and #2 because she didn't want to learn a new computer.

One day I did some computer work for a member who had bought a new used iMac that was a newer model, but not the brand new computers. When I found out how much she paid for it I thought to myself "that's a lot of computer for the money," and the wheels started turning.

I ended up buying a similar model on eBay, installed her documents on this new computer and just set it in place of her old computer. Hence the getting myself in trouble. I also set up a hidden camcorder. Here is her "surprise" morning:
