Quack, Quack

Most of what we did on Saturday you can't see anymore.

We set the furnace in place so that measurments could be taken, and ductwork could be fabricated to fit. Then we took the furnace back out. We hung the fresh air unit twice. We hung it once and then realized with the proximity to the ceiling we would not be able to remove the door to get the filter out. So we brought it back down and figured with some bolts and a sliding piece of ductwork we could make it so you could replace the filter in the future. Then we hung the unit again.

Working in such a small space is not easy, and the ductwork will look like a major city highway system when we are done, but we will make it all work, and in the end we will be much happier with the efficiency of this indoor system as opposed to an outside unit.

Now, what you can see:

we were able to install 12 feet of duct work. Now that we are started, I believe next Saturday we will hang much more.

Trim Work

As I list the things that were finished this last Saturday, you would think that we are putting the finishing touches on the Sunday School addition. Indeed, the things we worked on were finish work, but somewhere earlier in the process so that other work could be accomplished. We reinstalled the stairs going upstairs.

We trimmed around the windows.

We hung doors.

We trimmed around our attic access.

Next Saturday we are hoping to have a big mechanical day. That means we want to run gas lines, water lines, and hopefully set our furnace in place. It will be nice to have the furnace, but I will say that it was warmer in the addition this Saturday with all of the attic insulated.

Anything to Keep Warm

Although Archie continues to mud and tape the drywall, we have moved on in a new direction.

So that we could blow in the insulation in the attic, we had to hang these laminated boards from the rafters.

These will eventually hold the track, which will hold the accordion doors. They were a little time consuming, but in the end we got them all hung and level.

Which allowed us to blow in 16 inches of blown in insulation in the attic.

What do you think? I think it has been cold...I am glad to have every bit of insulation we can put in this addition!

Finishing Drywall

Okay, so last week I said there were only two pieces of drywall left to hang. I was mistaken.

We did hang the piece behind the electrical panel.

But then we also had to insulate and put some drywall up where the brick was exposed by the bathrooms.

And we had to put some greenboard in the stairwells.

That leaves us with some small areas that need to be finished after the doors are installed between the existing building and the addition.

On Saturday we also installed some internal doors. These doors need to be hung because the molding which finishes these doors is actually mudded in.

We also installed metal corners so Archie can mud those in.

This next week we are planning on working on insulating the attic with some blown-in insulation. Which will require dropping some rods through the drywall ceilings which will support our partition doors. I hope to see you Saturday!
