Sunny and Warm

I've always kind of been a weather junkie, but since we started the Sunday School building I've really been watching the weather. Maybe that is because I'm out there working in it a lot.

Well, this last weekend was absolutely gorgeous! We took advantage of it too! We did work inside some: pulling electrical wire, and finishing some odds and ends.

But we knew that this weather is not going to last so we focused on finishing up what we could outside. The roof is done, the outside is all Tyveked, the storm sewer pipes are all in, most of the dirt is leveled, and the outside electrical is about done.

You will likely see some brick going on the building through the winter is we get some days above 40, but most of the work will now be inside.

Stairs are being put in this week, and we are planning on another full workday on Saturday, December 2nd.

If you've been watching...

If you've been able to drive past the Sunday School Building Addition recently you've been seeing some subtle changes. The windows are in and just this past week glass entry doors were installed. Subtle changes to the eye, but lots has been happening. On Saturday 11/18 a full day of work was done but the only visible changes to the building's appearance at the end of the day was the presence of two small drain pipes protruding from the ground. All the rest of the day's work was buried by the end of the day.
Next Friday and Saturday will be work days rain or shine! Now we're ready to be inside to build partition walls and pull electrical wiring. All willing workers are welcome. This might be the best way to work off a big Thanksgiving Day meal and a great way to say "Thanks" in action.
We're always thankful for willing workers.

Back Where We Started From...Kind Of

Our foundation is dug, poured, and we started laying block. It sounds like we are starting all over, doesn't it? Well, this foundation is for the front entry concrete pad. So although it sounds like two months ago, we are making good forward progress.

This weekend's work did have one thing in common. It was all outside work. You see, we are doing all we can to get the outside finished off before the weather turns against us. We worked on digging footings for the front concrete pad foundation, pouring that footing, laying block for that pad,

finishing the roof, installing drain pipe to catch the water from the gutters (which will help solve the existing Sunday School buildings flooding problem),

and installing a concrete pillar for the new light post at the edge of the parking lot.

We still have to lay some block on the back exit, lay one more course in the front entryway, pour concrete for the front entryway, finish the drain pipe for the gutter system, enclose the soffits, finish the Tyvek wrap, install the front and back doors, and backfill around the project and our building should be ready to withstand the winter. We probably will get some brick on the outside before it gets too cold, which will really make it look nice from the outside.

The next full workday will be Saturday, November 11th. Start time would be around 8:00 a.m. We would love to have a big crew so we can make good progress on getting our building weathered in!
